The park is entirely in the territory of the Province of Perugia and it was founded in 1995.

The " Parco del Lago Trasimeno " was founded following regional law n. 9 of 13th March 1995. The aim was to protect and valorize an area rich of naturalistic, historical and artistic value: that of Trasimeno Lake and of the villages included in its district.
